The Answers to 4 Important Invisalign Questions
June 15, 2022
Let’s say you’ve decided to have your teeth straightened. Furthermore, you’re seriously considering Invisalign as an option. Even if that’s the case, you might hold back from treatment due to unanswered questions. After all, you may want to know what you’re getting into before fully committing. So, how should you move forward? By addressing your Invisalign questions, of course! Luckily, your Chula Vista dentist can help you do that. Learn these four essential questions and answers to make your treatment decision easier.
How Many Hours a Day Will I Wear the Trays?
Invisalign recommends that you wear your trays for about 20- 22 hours a day. Ideally, you’d keep them in for the maximum twenty-two-hour limit. Every second that the trays are off your teeth, you risk letting them slide back into their earlier position.
For your treatment to go as smoothly and quickly as possible, wear the trays for every second that you aren’t eating food or cleaning your mouth. There is a significant difference in the speed and effectiveness of treatment in patients who wear their trays.
Will Wearing the Aligners Hurt?
At first, yes — your teeth will feel sore and sensitive. Your gum and cheek tissue may develop sensitive spots. However, this is all normal. Plus, it’s no different than what you’d experience with traditional braces.
Thankfully, the worst of it will be over after the first week. Things will get significantly better once you clear that point, and you won’t notice much pain. While there may be occasional soreness or tissue irritation when changing trays, these can be easily managed.
How Noticeable is Invisalign?
Compared to traditional braces, the trays will be nearly undetectable. At most, people may notice your teeth look slightly shiny or have some small projections. Otherwise, only specialists like dentists would be able to tell you’re doing Invisalign.
Can I Drink Coffee or Tea with Invisalign?
Yes, you can. It would also help if you did so with the trays in your mouth to maximize their wear time.
Still, keep in mind that these beverages can stain the trays. Plus, you might want to avoid adding sugar to them since sugary liquid could get caught in between the aligners and your teeth. Should that happen, the sugar would stick against your enamel and cause it to erode.
Black coffee and unsweetened tea won’t cause cavities, so you can indulge in either as much as you want.
